About Cowboy Country
Buy our unique gift and you'll find your personal piece of America is located at the historic heart of the American Wild West.
Cowboy Country land is situated north east of the city of Holbrook, Arizona. In 1881 railroad tracks were laid in northeastern Arizona passing through an area known as Horsehead Crossing.
The following year a railroad station was built at Horsehead Crossing and the name was changed to Holbrook in honor of H.R. Holbrook, the first chief engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad.
The city has a bloody history typical of the lawless days of the Wild West and visitors today can pick up a walking tour map at the historic courthouse to see sites including the Bucket of Blood Saloon and the Blevins House, site of the famous shootout between Sheriff Commodore Perry Owens (pictured right)and the Blevins gang.
Now in the 21st century, the city still celebrates this era with the annual Hashknife Posse Pony Express Ride in January, the Holbrook Old West Celebration in June and the "Gathering of Eagles" Native American art show in July.
But the attractions don't stop there. Within easy drive of Cowboy Country, you will find the following tourist attractions:
- The Petrified Forest National Park, part of the amazing 'Painted Desert' which spreads across miles of north west Arizona;
- remnants of the 'Mother Road' - Route 66;
- Monument Valley, setting for countless western films;
- 3 Native American reservations home to the Navajo, Hopi and Apache peoples;
- Meteor Crater and the vast Cholla Lake.
